Apartment Yayasan Melaka

And we meet again on our third post.

You might have been wondering about the students who don't get the college facility, where do they stay? Well, across the campus there is actually an apartment where a lot of UiTM students usually rent for the whole semester. The apartment is owned by the Yayasan Melaka and is named Apartment Yayasan Melaka or the people here often called as AYAM.  All of the blocks of the apartment are occupant wholly by the students, not only from UiTM but also from MiCoST, UTeM, KPMBM and Acceskill as their campuses are located nearby as well.

Apartment Yayasan Melaka

Unlike its name, this apartment is actually a lot lot different than the usual apartments that we used to see. The interior of each house of the apartment is literally more like a sharing college. The space inside the house is quite compact and bad news, there is no spacious living hall for the students to hang around together. Therefore usually, the students would just stay in their own room and do everything in there.

In each house, there are 5 rooms in which 2 students are placed in each room (the rooms are quite small and just nice to fit 2 people), 2 toilets and 3 showers which are shared among the occupants in the house and also a pantry. Just like in college, there is no stove provided but what's better about staying here is that you are allowed to bring your own stove and cook inside your house (SAVE LOTS OF MONEY!)

The facilities provided around the apartment compund are food court, self service washing machines, vending machines, surau and 2 courts to play sports. The students are also allowed to bring their own cars and park at the parking lot provided around the compound. Most students prefer to rent here instead of other places because of how convenient and strategic the location is as it is very near to almost everything (campus, banks, restaurants etc etc). However, the downside of it is that the rent is quite high which is RM800++ per semester.

So what do you think of AYAM? If you feel like renting here, all you have to do is to come register at the apartment on the day of your registration and pay the rent for the whole semester on the same day. No booking in advance is needed and usually you do not have to worry for not getting a room as the houses are sufficient to cater a lot of student. As at the moment, this apartment is only stayed by the girls but there is already a new block reserved for the boys and will be open for them sometime in the future later.

Alright, have fun deciding!

Kolej Tun Mamat & Kolej Tun Mutahir

We have briefed you about our campus in the previous post. This time, we are going to give you the next most important information that the new students would be seeking to before they register themselves here; COLLEGE.

Since ours is a city campus, we don't have a lot of colleges like in other campuses. There is only one college for the boys and one college for the girls provided by the UiTM here. So please bear in mind that the spots are very limited and cannot cater to all students. However, fret not for the new students, as almost 80% of them are secured with college facility during their first semester.

But wait, you were told in the offer letter that you are not provided with college? No worries boys and girls, we were too! All you have to do is to come early on the registration day as a lot of students will be competing for the spots. Or else, you might have to find other places stay.

Now, let us give you a brief view about the two colleges here;

Kolej Tun Mamat is the college provided for the boys. It can fill up to 200 students per semester and is located just beside Medan Selera Tun Ali. Medan Selera Tun Ali is a public food court where students usually buy their food. For the gym junkies, this might excite you as there is also a gymnasium on the first floor of Medan Selera Tun Ali with an affordable membership price. Unlike girls' college, Kolej Tun Mamat has the Unit Kesihatan located on the ground floor just in case you feel sick and also a court facility for the students to play sports. But worry not for the girls as you are welcomed to use the court as well at any time.

Meanwhile, Kolej Tun Mutahir is the college for girls. It is located in front of Seri Melayu Restaurant and is roughly 10-minutes walk from the campus. For your information, there is no cafe inside the college compound but there is a mini mart opened on the ground floor for the students to buy their rations and snacks. Also, by the time we are writing this, there is a burger stall at the very back of the college which opens from 6 pm until 9 pm for those who are hungry and too lazy to go out to buy their food but we are still unsure until when will it be there.

The inside of the house

For both colleges, the fee is only RM420 per semester which is much cheaper than most of other places. Each student will be placed in an apartment-like house together with 7 other students. Each house has 3 bedrooms (1 master bedroom for 4 students, 2 normal bedrooms for 2 students each), 2 bathrooms (1 is in the master bedroom and another one is shared by the 4 students who stay in the normal bedrooms), a living hall where the study tables are located, a pantry (no cooking is allowed unfortunately) and a balcony with a very nice view of Melaka river. There are washing machines and a dryer machine facilities on the ground floor of both colleges and there are also water coolers provided on certain floors. The plugs are very limited in each house so make sure you bring your own "aid" to counter this problem. Don't say we didn't warn you, alright.

Is there anything else that you are curious about our colleges? Don't forget to leave us a comment down below. So till we see you on our next post!

UiTM Melaka City Campus 101

Congratulations on getting into UiTM, one of the best universities in Malaysia. Well done you. And welcome to UiTM Melaka City Campus. If you’re looking to discover what UiTM Melaka City Campus has to offer, or how student life works here on this campus, then you’re in the right place! This blog is going to take you on a virtual tour of the city campus and we’ll try our best to provide you with all the information you needed.

First, university background.

UiTM is a local university that was first built in Kuala Lumpur that was once known as Rida Training Centre yada yada yada. We’re not going to tell you about the university history from A to Z. We’re just going to highlight the important part. So if you’re really that curious, we suggest you to Google it yourself. But we bet you’re not going to tho because let’s be real, no one likes history.

As you may aware, there are 3 UiTM campuses here in Melaka; Alor Gajah campus, Jasin campus and Bandaraya Melaka campus. Since this blog is dedicated to the new UiTM City Campus students, we’re not going to talk about the other two campuses.

So anyways, UiTM Melaka City Campus was inaugurated on 26th March 2007 by Melaka then Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hj Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam. UiTM Melaka City Campus located in Jalan Hang Tuah, Melaka began its management operation on 15th December 2006 and the academic activities started on 3rd January 2007.

The campus consists of only one building. Yes people, you read it right, ONE BUILDING ONLY. But fret not, the facilities are complete (ok maybe not but you’ll be fine). Back in 2009 until 2015, the university used to rent 5 levels of the next door building to accommodate their students, since there weren’t enough classes for all the students. As of today, UiTM Melaka City Campus no longer has classes in Melaka Water Company building (the building next door) as some of the faculties (e.g. Faculty of Accountancy, Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies and Faculty of Art and Design) were relocated to UiTM Alor Gajah Campus sometime in 2015. And with that, only 2 faculties remain here in the city campus - Faculty of Business Management and Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management.

Before we take you on a virtual tour of the campus, we’ll tell you a little bit about the programs that UiTM Melaka City Campus offers. There are no diploma programs here, only degree programs so you’ll not find any diploma students roaming around the campus (no diploma students aka no cute juniors). The degree programs that the campus offers are Bachelor in Office System (BOSS), Bachelor in Finance (FINEST), Bachelor in Mass Communication (MASSA), Bachelor in Human Resource (HURES), Bachelor in International Business (IBUC) and Bachelor in Hotel and Tourism Management (HOTOUR). Just so you know, the spirit among students from each program is quite high and competitive and we even have specific levels for each program (e.g., level 8 is for International Business). Therefore sometimes it's actually quite fun to be competing among the programs available here.

Now that we're done telling you a little bit of our campus, it's campus tour time!
